Bespoke Stone Design
Bespoke Solid Stone Sinks & Tubs
From monolithic limestone vessel sinks to carved marble bathtubs, each piece is sculpted from a single block of natural stone. No seams, no joints, no silicone — just continuous stone, carved by 5-axis CNC and finished by hand.
Bespoke Inspiration
The Art of Monolithic Stone Carving
Solid stone sinks and tubs represent the pinnacle of bespoke stonework. Unlike assembled vanity tops with separate sink bowls, a monolithic sink is carved from a single block — the bowl, deck, and drain are all one continuous piece of stone. This eliminates the seams and silicone joints where water damage typically occurs in bathroom installations. The drain opening is precision-drilled to standard 1.5 inch waste fittings, compatible with global plumbing systems.
At Apexstone, we work with Portuguese Grey limestone and Statuario Venato marble for bespoke washroom programs. Portuguese Grey offers warm grey tones with natural fossil character — ideal for organic, spa-like bathrooms. Statuario Venato delivers a bright white background with bold grey veining that turns a freestanding tub into a sculptural statement. Each project begins with 3D modelling and drawing approval, followed by 5-axis CNC roughing and hand-finishing to achieve the final surface quality.

Key Considerations for Solid Stone Sinks & Tubs
Monolithic Carving vs Assembly
A solid stone sink is carved from a single block, so the bowl, deck, and drain are one continuous piece. This eliminates seams where water penetrates and mould grows — the most common failure point in bathroom stonework. The trade-off is higher material consumption: a 600 mm vessel sink may require a 400×400×200 mm block, of which roughly 60% becomes waste stone. For bathtubs, a single block of 1800×800×600 mm can yield one tub with 40-60 mm wall thickness.
Drain Engineering
Drain openings are precision-drilled to 1.5 inch (38 mm) standard waste size, compatible with global plumbing fittings. For vessel sinks, a pop-up or grid drain is recommended; for bathtubs, a dedicated overflow channel is carved into the stone wall. We coordinate with your plumber to ensure the waste and overflow positions match your rough-in before carving begins. Custom drain positions and sizes are available on request.
Wall Thickness & Heat Retention
Bathtub walls are typically 40-60 mm thick — thick enough for structural integrity and excellent heat retention, keeping bath water warm for 45+ minutes. Thinner walls (25-30 mm) reduce weight and material cost but sacrifice insulation. Sink walls are 20-30 mm thick. For freestanding tubs, the base is reinforced to 60-80 mm to distribute the weight of water and bather across the floor without cracking.
Wet-Environment Sealing
All solid stone sinks and tubs are sealed with a fluoropolymer penetrating sealer that bonds below the stone surface, providing 5-10 years of water repellency without changing the stone's appearance or texture. The drain flange area receives a second coat. We recommend resealing every 3-5 years for sinks and every 5-7 years for tubs. Unlike topical sealers, the penetrating formula will not peel or cloud in constant-moisture environments.
Applications
Where Solid Stone Sinks & Tubs Belong

Monolithic Vessel Sinks
Carved from a single block of Portuguese Grey limestone, these vessel sinks sit atop a vanity counter like sculpture. The warm grey tones and natural fossil markings make each piece unique. Drain holes are precision-drilled to standard 1.5 inch waste fittings, compatible with global plumbing systems.

Solid Stone Bathtubs
A Statuario Venato marble bathtub is the ultimate statement piece for a master bathroom. Each tub is carved from a single block, with walls 40-60 mm thick for structural integrity and heat retention. The bright white background with bold grey veining turns a functional fixture into a work of art. Available in oval, rectangular, and asymmetrical freeform shapes.

Integrated Sink-Vanity Combos
For a seamless look, Portuguese Grey limestone can be carved so the sink bowl and vanity top are one continuous piece — no joints, no seams, no silicone. The monolithic approach eliminates the weak points where mould and water damage typically occur in bathroom installations. This is where CNC carving meets traditional stonemasonry.

Spa & Hospitality Programs
Hotels and resorts order bespoke solid stone sinks in sets of 10-50 for consistent guest bathroom design. Portuguese Grey limestone is the preferred choice for hospitality — durable, cost-effective, and visually distinctive without being flashy. Each set is carved from the same quarry batch for color consistency.

Our Process
From Drawing to Solid Stone
Every bespoke solid stone sink or tub project begins with your drawings or concept sketches. Our team creates 3D models for approval, then selects the right stone block and carves it using 5-axis CNC machinery followed by hand-finishing. Each piece undergoes a water-tightness test before shipping.
- ✓
3D Modelling & Approval
We create detailed 3D models from your drawings or concept sketches, including drain positions, overflow channels, and exterior finish specifications. You approve before carving begins.
- ✓
Block Selection
Premium blocks of Portuguese Grey limestone or Statuario Venato marble are selected for color consistency, structural integrity, and sufficient size for the intended piece.
- ✓
5-Axis CNC Rough Carving
The block is rough-carved using 5-axis CNC machinery to achieve the basic geometry — exterior shape, bowl cavity, and drain opening — with ±1 mm precision.
- ✓
Hand Finishing
Skilled stonemasons refine the surface by hand: smoothing interior curves, profiling edges, and applying the specified finish (polished, honed, bush-hammered, or chiseled).
- ✓
Sealing & Water Test
The finished piece is sealed with fluoropolymer penetrating sealer, then water-tested: 24 hours for sinks, 48 hours for bathtubs, to verify water-tightness before crating.
